Top 3 practically indestructible Travel Ukuleles you can feel comfortable carrying around

In this article you’ll find the absolute sturdiest of travel Ukuleles on the planet. AND the Best cases you can possibly buy.

Ukuleles that you could literally jump on and wouldn’t break (seriously, but they might get messed up slightly). Ukuleles that you won’t have to worry about carrying with you practically anywhere.

Sidenote: Personally……..I believe that the case is more important than the actual Uke when traveling. When it comes to protecting your Uke, it’s more important to protect it from harm with a nice case than to get a really sturdy Uke and just hope for the best. So I also added a section on practically indestructible Ukulele cases as well.

I’m not saying however a good sturdy Uke isn’t important when traveling however. It’s so so easy to damage a Uke when traveling, and if you have a really nice and expensive instrument it can be devastating. I’ve been there, done that…..and I can still physically feel the hurt lol. It sucks.

NOTE: These Ukuleles are SO durable……

That one was RAN OVER BY A PRIUS…..AND SURVIVED. (Watch the video of the third on the list to see it happen)

-TOP 3 PRACTICALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE UKULELES-

#3 Klos (one-piece-body) Ukulele

You’ve probably heard of these guys before from their guitars……..but did you know they make Ukuleles?

I didn’t either until recently, but it turns out they make an incredibly strong carbon fiber ukulele. But this carbon fiber ukulele is different than other carbon fiber ukes.

What makes this one so much different?

Mainly that they have a special proprietary design. The entire body is one piece. This is what makes them so unbelievably strong.

WATCH IT GET RUN OVER BY A PRIUS BELOW.

if that doesn’t convince you this Uke is sturdy…..nothing will!

So what’s The best thing about this Uke? The tone is absolutely fantastic. It’s really surprising considering it’s not made of any typical tone woods you find out there. Since Carbon fiber is a type of plastic I thought there was no way it would sound this great. I was kind of shocked……..I really didn’t expect to like the tone as much as I do. It’s very sweet and doesn’t have that annoying slightly off sound other plastic models have somehow.

Moving on…..

Look how beautiful this piece is. Seriously check it out.

This is definitely one of the most gorgeous Ukes I’ve laid eyes on. Eye candy.

But seriously, listen to how it sounds to. Try not to fall in love now…..

Some other things btw to know about the Klos Ukuleles –

They do have imperfections. What I mean by that, is that in the process of manufacturing they have small creases, and marks and small distortions. This comes from the process of making carbon fiber. They do talk about this a little on their website.

There are actually three different versions available. I assume most people want an acoustic, but Klos does have an acoustic electric AND a deluxe acoustic electric as well. The Deluxe is slightly different with some upgraded electronics.

#2 Carbon Fiber Ukulele – (seriously!)

No, seriously. This is a carbon fiber Uke. Made specifically to survive extreme conditions WHILE maintaining beautiful acoustics. And the acoustics……..they really are incredible. Just listen in the comparison video below. The carbon fiber sounds so so sweet. Heavenly and crisp.

So, who makes it? The name of the company is Outdoor Ukulele, and was founded in 2014 by Scott and Jennifer Seelye. Scott noticed at that time, that there was a huge need for good outdoor ukuleles and he set out to make one.

Not only did he make incredible ukuleles……he’s made almost a cult following to go along with them. People absolutely ADORE their outdoor ukuleles….and rightfully so.

People post wild pictures of themselves with theirs all the time. This is my personal favorite one that’s on a mountain top in Nepal. 18,000 feet above sea level. That’s insanely high.

Especially check out the review section. Tons of happy happy customers on there. Also DEFINITELY check out IG as well. Follow the hashtag #outdoorukuleles and outdoor ukuleles also has their own brand page as well to follow and learn more cool stuff about them.

Yes, I’m plugging them hard. They deserve that though 100%.

#1 Gold Tone Resonator Ukulele –

This particular ukulele is extremely cool. If you’ve never played a res uke before…….You’re in for a treat. Like I said in the title, this is practically indestructible. The body is made out of steel and strong strong ABS plastic. But that’s not the coolest part.

The cool part, is how a resonator sounds so much different than your normal Uke sounds. It’s brighter, and more resonant for one thing….and a bit twangy to in a way. You’ll really notice the difference on how much more pronounced your pull offs and hammer one will sound and especially your slides.

Resonator ukuleles just give off a sound that everyone has to pay attention to when they hear it. They’re also much much louder.

Some people, don’t enjoy the sound of them……but that’s all personal preference. I think like with any instrument if you play enough of it you’ll get tired of it and look for a different sound.

I’d say this is number one on my list of Ukuleles that are practically indestructible just because of the steel body. However, the next one on my list is almost equally as strong.

Top 3 practically indestructible Hard Cases:

Personally, I think a hard case is the. BEST way to guarantee your Ukulele will stay in good shape. It’s not 100% perfect solution, but I’d say it’s the best you can get.

Plus………….a HUGE variety of options will open up to you when you get a hard case. Meaning…..

You’ll be able to choose whatever Ukulele you want to travel with. Rather than just a sturdy option. You’ll feel safe with a hard case. You won’t have to worry about it getting damaged.

That’s not to say that there aren’t advantages to having a sturdy ukulele however. It’s definitely a great idea to have both a sturdy ukulele and a hard case.

Note: There are a TON of things to consider when buying a Ukulele hard case, however I can’t list all of them here. It would take up way to much space on this article. The main things you need to consider when purchasing your Ukulele hard case are: That it fits snug but not to snug, that it seals well, and that the outside material is made of sturdy material. Personally, I also like mine to be able to lock. Most importantly (and slightly obviously) make sure to buy the right size case to fit your Ukulele size.

#3 Crossrock – Extremely well built

This is my personal favorite Ukulele case when it comes to protecting the Ukulele. The plush inside fits well, but not to tight so you know that you’re Ukulele will be safe. Which is the most important thing. There are some other really nice things about this Ukulele as well. For instance, it’s scratch resistant ABS plastic…..which if you’ve ever owned a case with scratches…..you’d know how awesome that is. It’s very very easy to get scratches. Also, you can buy straps to make it a backpack. That’s honestly super cool for going on hikes/whenever you need to carry it around for a good amount of time.

#2 Gator Journeyman – Gets the job done.

The Gator Journeyman is a really nice case, with a cool slightly vintage look. I especially love the look of the locks and the trim. It not only looks great, but it works well to. You’re not going to have to worry about dropping this case or taking it anywhere. Your Uke will be totally fine in most normal traveling conditions. The inside (which is also beautiful btw) has soft plush which fits Ukes snug, but not to tight. Also, as an extra plus. It has extra storage for you to put stuff in. All in all, a really great case.

#1 Simple, Elegant, Well Built. Fiberglass.

This is another crossrock case. There’s something absolutely gorgeous about an all black fiberglass exterior on a case. It’s very elegant. Of course, the red interior just adds to that.

Of course, that’s not the most important thing. This most important thing is how well the case keeps your Ukulele safe. Crossrock, does an extremely extremely good job of this. You won’t have to worry with this one just like the other one above. They have a really great fit. Not to tight, not to lose. Yes, these are more expensive cases…..but that’s unfortunately what usually comes with high quality products.

Alternative: Super cheap Ukulele You won’t have to worry about when traveling

The Vorson Ukulele (shown in video below) is absolutely fantastic, for being absolutely absurdly cheap….. it actually sounds quite nice. I really don’t think that this company will keep the price so low in the long run. The bright side is, if you’re looking for a ukulele that you don’t have to worry about when traveling……… The price on this one might ease your stress.

In the video below, is an awesome review of the vorson and some other ukuleles I thought you guys might enjoy. It’s a really good review.

7 quick tips on traveling with a Ukulele – (What You Need to Know)

#1 – If you’re traveling with a soprano or a tenor you’ll be okay size wise for flight travel. Anything larger you should check with your airline.

#2 – Cars get hot. Glue from Ukuleles can unstick and cause huge issues. Which is why you want a more durable Uke.

#3 – Consider buying a Uke and having it shipped to your destination. Sometimes, this is simply easier.

#4 Consider that people get annoyed when you play in hotel rooms, especially late at night. So, you can always try a electric Uke if you want to be courteous. Simply plug an amp and headphones in and you’re good!

#5 It’s best to bring your Uke as a carry on because the passenger area is pressurized. The cargo area is not. This can cause damage to your Uke.

#6 Never bring your favorite Uke. I know it’s tempting, but do not.

#7 Talk to someone over the phone or on the airlines actual website about what you can and bring on beforehand. Many airlines have special rules that you’ll need to be aware of.
