If you’re looking for a guitar with wide string spacing AND a wide neck….chances are you’ve noticed that the pickings are kind of slim. (pun slightly intended).
There’s really not very many choices, but the choices that are out there are prime. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with AT LEAST one of the guitars on this list. Get ready for goosebumps. These are some very high-quality guitars. (shout out to the luthiers Who made them).
and you don’t have to worry about the budget. No matter what yours is. Some are very budget friendly.
So, no matter if you’re interested because you have larger hands…….and may be having trouble playing certain things…….OR you’re interested in fingerpicking……..or whichever reason. I guarantee you’ll find something you like here.
Note: Generally………nut widths that are considered wide are 1 7/8” (47mm).However……I would say 46mm and up should be considered wide. Why? Most guitars are 44mm.
The highest nut width (without going fully custom) I could find out there was 51mm.
#7 – Seagull S-6 Original
(These guitars are beautiful, and unique. The first thing that always draws me in to this guitar is the headstock. I don’t see a lot of guitars that have similar styles. Which is just one of the things that makes this guitar so different.
Note: The headstock is not just for aesthetics.
– If you notice the strings are more streamlined to the guitar and the tuners are located more inward. This is all by design. The idea behind this is to keep the neck from bowing and also to keep the strings from going out of tune. It’s a pretty cool concept. Seagull actually has tons of interesting features like this on their guitars. Look them up! You’ll see they’re a incredibly innovative company. Really fascinating (at least to me lol) Watch the video above as well to see more of their features.
Now to talk a little about the tone….
It sound absolutely beautiful especially in the mid range, but without being too bright. For me personally that’s fantastic I really just don’t like acoustic guitars with too bright of a tone sometimes it ends up sounding sharp and not pleasing to the ear. But you don’t get that with this guitar.
One of the things I really like about this guitar…..
is that the body style is also slanted. If you look at it from the side you’ll notice the bottom is fatter and slowly transitions to thinner towards the neck. This makes it oddly comfortable.
Overall a good guitar, great price. Great quality. Seagull makes really really good stuff.
Some of the specs: Cedar Top (pressure tested), Maple neck, semi gloss finish (very thin finish), wild cherry back.

#6 – Recording King Ros-16 Studio Series 12th Fret 000
Ugh. You’ll absolutely love how recording king guitars look. So unique……but in a way that has a lot of class. There’s an old school feel to it that’s magical. This is a common thing for a lot of their guitars actually, extremely extremely unique and innovative. If you would really like to own a cool and slightly different instrument with a vintage feel I definitely suggest checking these out.
And what’s better? The tone feels like that to. The tone is all their own.
If you listen to these for a few minutes (or play one) You will DEFINITELY see what I’m talking about. The tone is almost gritty……but in a good way. If that makes sense. It’s hard to explain. Listen to the video above! You won’t regret it.
Note: The history of these guitars goes all the way back to the 30s. Their main focus is to keep this history alive, so many of their guitars have a beautiful vintage look. They’re definitely worth taking a look at and seeing what they have. It’s super cool to just browse through their website. Also, these guitars are absurdly affordable. So affordable you might even have the money in your pocket as you read this. And that goes for everything to, not just their guitars. So if you’re interested in a mandalin, or maybe a banjo you’re in luck to. This company is just absolutely awesome. I hope they stick around for awhile.
Here’s some of specs: pretty standard stuff when it comes to the wood with mahogany back and sides. What’s different is herringbone purfling and IvoRoid binding.
#5 – Washburn Vintage Series R314KK Acoustic
Washburn guitars are some of the most underrated most under-appreciated guitars out there.
The tone on these guitars….it’s so unique to them. It’s just soooo smooth and mellow, I fall in love with literally every guitar of theirs I see.
Personally, I don’t like their visual style much even though they are pretty……..many people would probably disagree of course.
But seriously. You CANNOT miss the tone on these. Just listen, I’m putting a link to this guitar being played above..
Note: Washburn Guitars receive some hate online, but don’t count this one out because of that. These are great guitars (especially if you choose one of their higher end models). They fit very comfortably in the hand. Many professional guitar

#4 – Seagull Coastline S6 Cedar Folk
Yes this is another Seagull. Honestly these guitars are some of the best wide nut guitars you can find out there. They are extremely well-built and for now they are still incredibly underpriced and undervalued. I think as time goes on they will have to raise the price to keep up with the demand. We will see.
This particular model……it’s probably best suited for fingerpicking and the bass tones you get out of it are just unreal. These tones are what you’ll recognize first when you pick up the model and play a little bit. After that you’ll notice how resonant it is. A lot of people really like how this sounds…….To me it’s actually a little too resonant and a little to Bassy compared to other Seagull models. That’s just a personal opinion however, and I haven’t found too many other people that agree. If you’re really into heavy bass tones on your guitar I highly suggest this model.
#3 – Seagull Coastline Momentum HG Acoustic-Electric
(See More Details, Specs, and Pricing info on Amazon)
Another beautiful seagull guitar, with gorgeous cherry wood. Like I said before….these guitars are truly one of a kind and are currently an unreal bargain.
This particular model I actually couldn’t find anything wrong with it……or anyone upset about it online either. I’m not joking, I could not find anyone upset at all. Weird thing to happen nowadays. Seems like someone on the internet has always got to find at least something wrong with absolutely everything lol. But seriously, I found absolutely raving reviews everywhere for this model.
I will say though, it does seem like most everyone bought the guitar because of the nut
Width. At 1.8”.
Well, that and the price together really makes it a steal. Personally after all the guitars I’ve looked at with wider nuts, I’d have to say this one just feels the most comfortable all around for me…….So I understand the hype entirely.
I think it has something to do with the neck shape. There’s nothing extremely special about their neck shape……..but it just feels SO good in your hand.
FYI, you can find these at almost all guitar centers if you want to get an idea for how it feels. Sooooo comfortable. For both hands to.
Of course, probably not comfortable for someone with smaller hands……..but I’m not sure why someone with smaller hands would be reading this anyways. If you are, I’d appreciate if you left a comment why you decided to read this! Thank you btw!
Some specs: 1.8” nut width, high gloss finish (not to much so it’s not terribly sticky, wild cherry back, maple neck.
If you’re interested in more, definitely watch the video above. He does a great review.
#2 – Takamine EF740FS TT Thermal Top Acoustic-Electric
(See More Details, Specs, and Pricing info on Amazon)
I’m so happy to be able to add a Takamine to this list, there’s always been something magical about their guitars to me. I think it’s probably because it’s the first acoustic I ever played.
They sound gorgeous, and this model in particular is one that would definitely have to be delicately handled (not that it’s not built well – Takamine guitars have incredible quality)
So, this is a very interesting model. For starters, this is actually an updated version to the tf740fs. Another incredible guitar with a large nut width.
It’s also OM style body……but get this……
instead of OM style depth…..they made this guitar so the depth is closer to a dreadknaught.
Which creates a GREAT tone for fingerstyle guitar players specifically. (Makes sense, the FS stands for fingerstyle).
So, you get all the comforts of an OM guitar…….with that full bodied dreadknaught sound.
Also….
This one is especially nice for fingerstyle players. Because at the bridge the spacing is even wider than usual as well. Takamine really did a great job catering to fingerstyle players on this model.
Moving on….
For those unaware, it’s important to know:
Takamine has a modified c shape on their neck. It’s thinner on the bass side. Which contours well to most people’s hands……It does take awhile to get used to, but it does feel better than most necks. (At least For me, I understand this is a personal preference……it may be different for you).
So here’s why I bring all this up.
Because of the wider bridge, and the modified neck…..I really feel like this is a model you should try in a store before you buy it.
I know some people think…..”oh I’ve played with a larger neck width before so I know I’ll like it.”
I promise, you’ll want to play on this first. I know most people will like it……But some might find it weird.
The only downside to this model is the preamp. No onboard EQ. The only way you can do it……..well it’s to technical for me to figure out honestly. You have to actually take the preamp apart. Nope. Not for me. I’m sure there are some guitarists that can do this of course, but it does look difficult.
#1 – Big Lou wide neck electric guitar cobra
Of course, I had to add an electric guitar to the lost.
Unfortunately, there just aren’t many options when it comes to electric guitars with wide necks.
I don’t really know why…..I assume it’s because most people who play electric want their string spacing to be shorter so they can play faster….(less distance from string to string)
However. The problem with this is that there are still electric players who need a larger neck width.
Anywho…..
This guitar seems pretty nice, however I’m only judging this based on what I’ve seen online about them. They aren’t necessarily a very well known guitar. They still do have enough reviews and information online that I can say they seem pretty well built.
Note: If you get on YouTube and just browse around online in forums you’ll find basically everything you need to know about these guys. There’s a LOT of information about them.
I highly suggest if you’re interested, to watch this three part mini series where this guy reviews them. Pretty solid review and he goes through just about everything you really need to know. He does a really good job.

Conclusion:
Hope you enjoyed this article!!! Simply put, there really aren’t a ton of options out there when it comes to getting guitars with a larger but width. However, the options out there are very very good. In the future, I assume that more companies will make guitars with larger nut widths however since there is obviously a larger demand.
Please, if you have any suggestions at all how I can make this article better…..please share! I want this to be a great and helpful article for people.
Thanks again!
